Your child should wear clothing that they can handle on their own and enable them to be independent in the bathroom. They should wear comfortable play clothes and shoes. Rain/snow boots are not necessary, but please bring shoes if your child wears boots to school.
Your child will need to bring a backpack to school each day to carry home their school work and crafts. Please keep an extra pair of underwear and pants in their backpacks in a Ziploc bag.
Bringing toys from home is discouraged. A note or email will be sent if we are asking for toys or items to be brought in.
Parents are asked to provide a simple snack for the class on a rotating basis. This includes a drink and an individually wrapped snack for the children in your child’s class. A monthly snack calendar will be sent home with your child. Snacks should be nutritious and non-sugary. We suggest cheese sticks, fruit, crackers, and pretzels. I will post any allergies on the snack calendar. TLC will provide snack if one is not provided. I will post a picture on Remind of the snack brought in.
When serious symptoms (as outlined in our handbook) occur or communicable disease is suspected parents will be contacted to take your child home. A sick child will be separated from the others and will be placed on a cot and will remain supervised until they are picked up. A mildly ill child is one who is experiencing minor cold symptoms or does not feel well enough to participate in activities, but is not exhibiting any serious symptoms. This child will be cared for in a portion of the room not being used by other preschoolers. They will be made comfortable with a cot and a blanket and will be observed carefully for worsening conditions. Parents will be notified at this time. At no time will a child be left unattended: staff will supervise children at all times.
TLC accepts children with and without immunizations. Non-immunized children will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
For safety reasons, medicine, both prescription and over-the-counter-should be administered at home*. If a physician requires the administration during school hours state law requires that a medicine administration form must be completed and signed by the physician, signed by the parent and on file in the classroom prior to the first day of school. *A child of school age can have and use an inhaler or medication when needed for an emergency. Our policy is that TLC is to be notified and a medical plan set in place.
Staff and children’s temperature will be taken upon arrival, if CDC is recommending this procedure.
TLC does participate in field trips. You or an adult appointed by you, would oversee transporting your child to the event. We are unable to transport children. We may be able to connect you with another parent who is able to. transport. You will be responsible for your child during our field trips. We encourage this parent/child time to learn, play and discover together. A permission slip must be signed, payments made and turned in before the field trip.
Rules are established to enable children to know what is expected. Children are not allowed to hurt others, put themselves in danger or deliberately destroy materials and TLC property. Methods such as redirection, encouragement and communication will be used to assist children with difficulties in coping in social settings. The situation will be explained to the child and shall take place at the time of the incident as soon as it can be safely done in private. A warm, friendly, and safe environment is always emphasized. Physical punishment of any kind is strictly forbidden. Taylor Learning Center reserves the right to remove a child permanently due to the safety of the child or others.
Conferences are held once a year. Your child’s assessment will be discussed at this time. TLC conducts assessments on the children during the school year for our use only. We will share our information during conferences. Please keep us informed of any incidents that may affect your child’s behavior. Concerns and complaints can be addressed during office hours, which are posted on the bulletin board in hallway upon entry. You can always call to make an appointment, as I am here for you and your child.
Children with disabilities are assessed on an individual basis to determine if the program is the right fit for their needs. Upon enrollment my staff and I will be properly trained regarding any necessary care procedures and a care plan written up and put in place.
